Experimental international college
Meeting Report
Problem: Experimental international college
Date and time of Meeting:21th March 2012, 02:12 P.m.
Venue: W003
Equipment: Computers, papers and pencils.
Group members:
Chair: Abu Baker Abdulrahman
Secretary: Khalid
Participant: Faisal Fahed

Agenda:
· Advantages of the program
· Disadvantages of the program
· Benefits of the program to the college and the country
· The problems that the international student may face.

The chairman Abu Baker opened the meeting at 2:20 p.m.
1- Advantages of the program
· Faisal explained one of the advantages which was lifelong friendships. Faisal told a story from his personal experience about his friend Jhan which Abubaker and Khalid really liked and found helpful.
· Students gained a wider perspective of other cultures than their own and Faisal said that he had learned a lot about other cultures and a few foreign words. Khalid said that he agreed and he could relate this to personal experiences. Abu baker said that it will help the community to be aware of other cultures.
· At this point Faisal began to explain about the daily challenges through language barriers. Abu Baker said that he believed the best way to learn is to be in the field; this is because learning from your own experience will give you self confidence.

Disadvantages:
Faisal said that one of the disadvantages was some of the foreigners may have some traditions that will not go with our traditions. Such as the young Emirati girls started to not wear the abaya because of the western traditions, which is against our religion and traditions.
Abu Baker commented that this is a live example and this is a phenomenon is getting bigger and bigger. However it should not be a problem; it is our role to stop it by making people aware of the results that may happen because of not wearing the abaya.
Faisal added one more disadvantage which is mixed gender. For old Emiratis that will be a huge problem.
Abu Baker said that some families will not allow their sons and daughters to go to college because of that. Moreover it is against our religion and traditions. So what can we do to get over this?

Khalid said that giving them a taste of current reality is the best solution.
The international student could be a good idea.
Here Abu Baker suggested to try to solve some of these problems like cultural shock and stereotypes; Faisal explained what cultural shock is and the solution. From his point of view, the only time we can really solve this problem( here Khalid disagreed) is when we do an orientation week to help. This will provide the students with a booklet and some orientation classes. Here Faisal started to explain about some of the stereotypes and they agreed on this. We can only solve this problem by spreading awareness.

In conclusion we thought that:
1. -Anything new will face a lot of problems and challenges which must not frustrate us.
2. - Disadvantages should not be an obstacle because we can find some solutions to these.
3. - To get to the top you will face a lot of problems and challenges that you should overcome.

And here Abu Baker ended the meeting
